I have my own advertising and graphic design company (www.stevebeaumont.com) and have art directed hundreds of photographs and film projects during my career.
While on far away business assignments to some of the most awe-inspiring places I would always notice where I was standing and think to myself: "Wow, this would make a great painting. Too bad the client's product (car, motorcycle, golf clubs, spokesperson, computer, food item) is in the way." While I can't always go back and re-create the scene for myself, traveling always did inspire me to be constantly aware of the unique visual imagery around us.
I don't believe in the "spontaneous generation" origin of man theory which argues everything came from nothing. Everything we see has meaning and a story. Some of it doesn't add up to much but to find the beauty, character and truth in the things often overlooked is the role of the artist.
Lord willing I hope to keep catching glimpses of this truth until I get it right.
